Born in Brawley, California on April 22, 1931 to Francisco and Leonor Sanchez, Maria had an adventurous spirit and loved the sea. Married to the late Jesús Isabel Gonzalez for 57 years, Maria was staunchly devoted to family. A quiet but strong presence in her own family, she enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, and custom jewelry making.
Maria is survived by her children, Thelma Lawler, Pearl Gonzalez and Jesse Gonzalez; son- in-law Raul Lawler; grandchildren, Vince Lawler, Mark Lawler, Greg Gonzalez, Tatiana Lawler Sweeney, Gabriel Gonzalez, and Rachel Gonzalez; grandchildren-in-law Tami Lawler, Anita Castillo Lawler, and Bill Sweeney; great-grandchildren Grant Lawler, Nathan Lawler, Winter Lawler Sweeney and Cashel Lawler Sweeney.
Visitation will take place Saturday, May 21, 2011, 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, with services beginning at 4:00 P.M.
Donations may be sent to the Assisted Home Hospice Foundation of Ventura County.
