It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. John David Gojkovich, 54, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 10, 2013, at St John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard with his loving wife Rebecca by his side.
John David was born December 3, 1958, in Oxnard, CA, to Chris & Mary Jane. He was a long-time Ventura County resident. He attended schools in Oxnard and graduated from Hueneme High School in 1977. In his high school days he loved to go surfing, and for his graduation gift he traveled to Hawaii to surf. After graduating high school, he worked as a bricklayer and was passionate about his trade.
Always outgoing and friendly, John loved to make people laugh and was known for his story telling and numerous jokes. It was amazing how many jokes he could tell and never repeat the same one. John loved to camp and spend time with family. He looked forward to Sundays when the grandkids would arrive. He will be sorely missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known him.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Rebecca Gojkovich and their collective children Jordan Gates, John Gojkovich Jr, Jackie Gojkovich, Sean Nelson, Roger Nelson, Joseph Nelson and Jacob Nelson. Grandchildren Elias, Jacob Jr, Jack, John III, Athena, Steven and Charlotte; his Step-father John L Tate; his siblings: Christine Gonzales (Edward), Gail Skidmore (Bill), Jane Gojkovich, Gregory Gojkovich, Joan “Punky” Gojkovich, Gina Greene (Jon), sister-in-law Jean Gojkovich (Michael); 30 nieces & nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father Chris Gojkovich, mother Mary Jane Tate, and brother Michael Gojkovich.
A celebration of John David’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 16, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
