Born on October 3, 1936, in a small farm town in Montesano, Washington, it was there, that I met this beautiful teen age daughter of pioneer dairy farmers. Recently discharged from service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, it was love at first sight for the both of us.
On May 27, 2013, we observed 59 plus years of a wonderful marriage. Blessed with two wonderful sons, Keith and Kevin made us a family. They both reside here in Ventura. In 1955, we migrated to California in search of our future. Bought our first home in Norwalk, California, went to business in the service station business which led to moves to Malibu then to Ventura. She was the perfect stay at home Mom during this period.
As the boys matured Joanne became employed with J.C. Penney Company, rising to the position of Personnel Manager until retirement after 20 years of service in 1992. This led to our freedom to travel, first with the purchase of our 32 foot Grand Banks cruiser. All summers were spent up and down the coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Long layovers at Catalina and all other ports, club meetings, and making great friends along the way.
To diversify our travels we experienced 25 cruise ships to many parts of the cruise ship world including Panama Canal three times, Alaska twice, Hawaii and the Caribbean Sea.
Then we worked in a 10,000 mile auto trip around the U.S. for 70 days. She loved to travel as you can see. But it was always great to get back home to family.
Most of all she was my dear loving wife, mother of my sons and a devout Christian. May God take her in his arms, as we thank Him for having her on this earth.
She is survived by husband, Dale; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Jaime McMillan and Kevin and Brenda McMillan; grandchildren, Frankie, Cody, Max and Haley.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, July 19, 2013, 2:00 pm, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, California.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
