Gordon Charles Williams, Jr., age 94, United States Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, gently passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Venturan Care Center, Ventura, California. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on July 15, 1917, he was the only son of Gordon C. Williams, Sr. and Genevieve Burke Williams. Gordon graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1936, and attended Los Angeles City College which prepared him for a long time business career with the Standard Oil Company. In 1941 he married Elizabeth E. Colby, whom he met at the Los Angeles Country Club. He very much enjoyed raising his family, camping, showing his Welsh Corgi dogs, playing golf, and was admired for his leadership roles at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Whittier, California. In 1977, he married Virginia C. Burnham, and moved to Ventura, California. After he retired, he rekindled his passion for golf, gardening, and stamp collecting. His stamps won recognition in many categories locally and nationally. Gordon is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children Sally (Larry) Walby and Charles (Ruth-Ann) Williams; three grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He also had four step children: Linda, John, Sharon, and Scott Burnham; eight step grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren. Gordon loved his family and cherished his many friends. His joyful spirit brought love to all who knew him - even in his 94th year. He will be greatly missed.
