Our mother Geneva joined our father, W.S. “Bill” Everett, from complications due to Alzheimer’s Disease. She leaves behind her son Robert Everett, his wife Anita, their children Joshua and Jessica; grandson, Jason Everett and two great granddaughters, Madison and Molly. She also leaves behind her daughter Susan Grasso and her husband Sam, and their daughter Kathryn (whom she delightfully shared her birthday with) and Kathryn’s husband Brian Hoxie.
Geneva was born in Etowah, Tennessee to William and Frances Brown; documented decedents of the first families of Tennessee. She and her sister Thelma, now deceased in 2010 at 97, moved to Berkeley, CA as children; she later attended UC Berkeley for two years as a science major. It was there that she met our father Bill, a Cal grad-student in engineering, from Ventura. Love at first sight, they married June 26th, 1937.
From then on, our mother fervently helped our father achieve his goals throughout their lives. They were conveniently stationed in San Francisco during World War II before moving back to Southern California to start an engineering business. They moved to our family ranch in the 50’s in Santa Paula. She then raised my brother and I while taking time to travel with our father on business trips throughout Europe and Japan. Throughout her life, our mother turned her sewing skills into a passionate hobby; sewing many wonderful outfits, from beautiful ballroom gowns to Halloween costumes.
To scale back their busy lives, they found a lovely beach house in Ventura, in the 60’s. Although our mother enjoyed the citrus ranch life, she loved and embraced living at the beach; from its foggy days to the ocean’s bright orange sunsets over the outline of the Channel Islands.
After a stroke in 2004, our family had to move our mother to assisted living. My brother and I wish to thank Aegis of Ventura and Cypress Place staff for their care of our mother. Thank you to Dr. William Hart, Dr’s J. N. and Robert Warwar. A special thank you to Dr. Logan Bundy and Dr. Albert Amorteguy for their sweet bed side manner.
Our family asks that in lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made in Geneva’s honor to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses Association of Ventura, or to her favorite hospital, Community Memorial Hospital, System Foundation.
My brother Robert and I respectfully want to say thank you and we love you Mom and Dad for opening your hearts to love us. Our mother’s wishes were to be cremated. A private family service was held earlier this week.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneral Home.com.
