Dr. James Ward Colquitt, D.D.S., 76, of Ventura, passed away on, Sunday, November 3, 2013, with his family by his side. Dr. Colquitt had been a Ventura County resident for 68 years. He was born September 2, 1937, in Los Angeles, to Henry Ward Colquitt and Sarah Charlotte (Alexander) Colquitt.
At the age of sixteen, Jim graduated from Oxnard High School in 1955. He continued his education at Ventura College for two years, and then attended USC Dental School. After graduating from USC Dental School, Jim joined the United States Navy, and served for two years.
Following his return, Dr. Colquitt started his dental career working with Dr. Penfield in his Saticoy office for 11 years. In 1972, he and Dr. Bill Spellman partnered together and established “Woodside Dental” and the Golden West Dental Plan. Dr. Colquitt retired in 2001 after 39 years of dentistry.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing with his family in the Sierra’s. He was an avid reader. He had a passion for flying which he did mostly in his Cessina 210.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia Ann (Guinn) Colquitt; sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Tresa Colquitt of Chino Hills, CA; Michael and Cindy Boehm of Ojai, CA; Jeffrey and Laurel Boehm of Warrior, Alabama; and Drew and Maureen Colquitt of Tustin, CA; his sister, Pamela Colquitt of Chandler, Arizona; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, 11:00am, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
