Don was born on June 17, 1915, in Interior, South Dakota, to Alvin and Goldia Hight. Don and his wife Rena raised four daughters in Los Angeles, California.
As a young man, Don moved to California, graduated from Lincoln High School in Los Angeles in 1933. He received his general contractor’s license in 1944, and went on to build a successful construction company, Hight Construction of Los Angeles. In and around Southern California the company's buildings included the Palm Springs Spa, medical facilities, schools (public and private), warehouses, conference centers, office buildings, department stores, factories, restaurants, super markets, as well as many other structures too numerous to mention.
In 1955, Don opened a division in Ventura County, restored Mission San Buenaventura, built the Casa Sirena Hotel and numerous office and medical buildings. In 1973, Don closed the Los Angeles offices and opened HMH Construction, Inc. in Camarillo and continued his successful career throughout Ventura County.
Don was a beloved family man whose interests included boating, motor-homing and vacationing on cruise ships. He also continued to work on home building projects well into his 90's. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Don is survived by his four daughters, Cleo Rotta, Donna Jordan, Barbara Kelly and Michelle Gaylord; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
