Barbara Hansen passed away peacefully on January 21, 2014. She struggled for many years with the effects of Parkinson’s disease, COPD, and in later years dementia. She was 71 at the time of her death. Barbara was born in Alameda, California in 1942. She lived in Pasadena and Trona, California. She graduated from Trona High where she was a home coming princess and cheerleader. Later, she attended the University of California, Santa Barbara. She was married to David Reed and had two children, Scott and Rosemarie Reed. They lived in Hawaii for several years and returned to live in Oxnard, Ca. Barbara went to work as a single mother, for the County of Ventura Social Services Agency, starting as an eligibility worker and working her way up to supervisor. It was there that she met and married Curt Hansen. They were married for 40 years and together had their son Keith Hansen. They moved to Ventura in 1976 where she resided until her death. After they both retired in 1998, they traveled extensively in their motor home. In addition to foreign travel, they visited 40 states in their RV including several trips to Alaska, the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta, and British Columbia. It was said their dog Rocky had over 120,000 miles on him. Barbara is preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother Robert. She is survived by her husband Curt, sons Scott Reed(Kerry) and Keith Hansen of Ventura, daughter Rosemarie Reed of North Bend, Wa., sister May Jessup of Sherwood, Or. Additionally, she is survived by four grand daughters, three grand sons, and four great grand children. Barbara will always be remembered as a kind and caring person. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that people recognize a local charity of their choice. No services are planned at this time.
