“Al” or “Bud”, as some knew him, is survived by his son, Albert Lee Smith, Jr. (Lee); daughter, Teresa L. Smith (Terry); and grandsons, Christopher Lee Smith and Zachary Edward Smith.
Albert was a Ventura High School Graduate of the class of ’57 and enjoyed attending the reunions. His beloved wife Janice B. Smith passed away in 2004 from cancer.
Albert was a U.S. Air Force Veteran during the Cuban Missile Crisis where he spent over 4,000 logged hours on the EC-121C Radar Constellation with the 552nd Air Wing. He was active with Global Aeronautics that refurbished the plane where it was able to fly from Camarillo Airport to Edwards Air Base during the U.S. Air Force 50th Anniversary.
Albert retired from Southern California Edison Company in 1998 where he worked at Santa Clara Substation as an Operator. He was very much involved with 1st Marine Division reunions which he joined with his friend in Arroyo Grande. He loved shooting, hunting, and took his boat out fishing at the islands every opportunity the weather would allow.
He was a beloved Father and Grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, between the hours of 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2014, 2:00 pm, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, with The Reverend Dan Hull officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the 1st Memorial Honors Detail.
