Michael was an amazing man, husband, father, friend, and coach. He loved his wife first and foremost with all his might, and was the best father to his three children. He created the most loving, close-knit family, and instilled in them his love for the outdoors. He leaves them with fond memories of canoeing, boating, and ice fishing on Tsatsawassa Lake, cross-country skiing their 12 acres of woods, and building bonfires and forts in the backyard.
Michael started his career at Hudson Valley Community College, and went on to serve the State of New York at the Dormitory Authority where he retired from 9 years ago. He had an incredible amount of adventures, side quests, hobbies and passions throughout his life. He was a skilled outdoorsman and hunter, and recently placed first in the United States Practical Shooting Association’s 2024 Carry Optics Nationals. Michael played an instrumental role in the formation of the Village of East Nassau, NY, of which he was elected to lead as mayor for 6 years. He began the Lacrosse program at La Salle Institute in 1986 and built it into a perennial Section II power. In 1989, he was awarded the Man of the Year Award by the United States Lacrosse Coaches Association. He was most proud of leading the La Salle lacrosse team to six Sectional Finals, capturing four Sectional championships, and two 2nd place team wins with 2 league championships.
Michael made so many friends everywhere he went, and many who became family. He touched so many peoples lives. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Springer (neé Toomey), his son, Timothy Springer, his daughter Maggie Springer and her fiancé Patrick Naple, and his daughter Hannah Springer and her husband Matthew Hart. He was so proud of his son, Timothy, who is starting nursing school in 2025. He celebrated the recent wedding of Hannah and Matt in September of 2024, and was looking forward to Maggie and Patrick’s wedding in August of 2025. He will be incredibly missed. The family is hosting an open house at their home in Rotunda West Florida on 12/21/2024 from noon to 4pm. There will be a celebration of life in upstate New York this spring. Date to be determined.
