Howard W. Schmidt died, October 4, at the age of 93. Born in Tama, Iowa, he grew up on a farm, joined the Navy in 1950. He then attended the University of Iowa. After graduation, he obtained his law degree from the University of Iowa School of Law.
After moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, he was associated with banks in the trust management and finance. He was involved in many community endeavors as well as serving as Board of Trustees and Board Chair of the Health System Board of Trustees, serving in various ACH capacities from 1975 to 1993.
Surviving Howard are his loving wife of thirty- six years, Libby; his children with his former wife, the late Frances L'Ours; Sandra Schmidt. Deanna Gleim (Holger), Dr. David Schmidt (Meg); and Libby's loving daughters Cienne Dix (Jeff) and Lura Lentz (Daniel). Eight grandsons survive him as well as two great grandsons. Also, Libby's two granddaughters.
A service for Howard will be held privately at Sarasota National Cemetery.
