Dawn was born on September 20, 1932 to Ernest and Birdice (Twichell) Lott. She spent her early childhood in Williamston, MI where she took up tap and jazz dance. Her dance group, through the USO, entertained servicemen at nearby Fort Custer. Later Dawn’s family moved to Lansing and she graduated from Sexton High School in 1950. Dawn always had a mischievous sparkle in her eye when she would tell the story of how she and her brothers Ron and Chuck sneaked into Moores Park pool after hours to swim.
Dawn met the love of her life, Daniel Keith Hollenbaugh, during high school and they married soon thereafter. Dawn began her working career in the accounting office of Oldsmobile where she met life-long friends Joyce Dickinson, Jeannette Smith and Joyce Katke and 70 years later they remain in touch.
Dawn and Dan raised their daughters, Terri and Jodi, in a home filled with the love and laughter of family and good friends. Dawn worked at Michigan National Bank and took an annual “summer leave” to be home with her daughters during their summer vacations. After 20 years and reaching Assistant Vice President, Dawn left MNB to join Capital National Bank. Years later, Dawn still enjoyed meeting up with her MNB co-workers for breakfast.
Dawn and Dan relished their retirement in Parrish, Florida for 12 years where Dawn enjoyed dancing, bowling, painting, reading and crossword puzzles. They returned to Michigan in 2002 and were thrilled to watch their grandchildren as they grew up - first Jodi’s son Chris and then Terri’s daughter Becca. Dawn and Dan were happily married for 53 years before he passed away in 2003.
Dawn moved back to Venice, FL in 2018 to be closer to her daughters, where she enjoyed dancing, concerts in the park, theater productions, taking in the Gulf breeze from the North Jetty and dining out with a glass (or two) of White Zin.
Her life-long love with Danny continues today as Dawn was reunited with him and her pre-deceased grandson, Christopher Daniel Clark and brother, Ronald Lott. Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters Terri (Mark) Powers and Jodi (Patrick) Mercer, both of Venice, FL, granddaughter Becca (Jimmy) DeTore and great grandson Lucas, of North Port, FL, grandson Kristopher Morris and great grandchildren Lexi, Tyler and Keira of Lansing, MI, brother Charles (Breon) Lott of Venice, FL, nieces, nephews and dear friends Carol Prince, Marie Lonier and Tim Mellinger.
Although Dawn loved to throw a good party, she didn’t always like being the center of attention, so in that light her family will hold a private remembrance. Later this summer a celebration of Dawn’s life will be held in Dimondale, MI.
The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the memory caregivers at Venice Palms Senior Living for their kindness and the loving care given to Mom.
