Doris Eileen Schwartz, 92 of Vancouver WA, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. She was born at home in Columbus, Ohio on August 10, 1926 to Edward William and Edith Margaret (Larger) Reeb. She graduated from Groveport Madison High School in Groveport, Ohio, in 1945. Doris worked for the State of Ohio from 1945 to 1953. She married Dale E. Schwartz, Jr. on April 16, 1950 in Columbus (he preceded her in death October 22, 2018). Dale and Doris’ story began in the first grade, as he fondly remembered her having the ‘biggest brown eyes’. Attending different schools, they met again years later in her father’s tomato patch. They had their first date on her 21st birthday. They truly were each other’s best friend. Together, they square danced with the Reynoldsberg Revelers Square Dance Club and played on the Colony Cove Shuffleboard Team. They were life-long Lutherans; members of Zion-Lutheran Church in Groveport, OH and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Bradenton, FL.
Doris made a welcoming home for her husband and two daughters, Shirley and Debbie. Her helpful nature and unconditional support even extended to her daughters’ friends, as she lovingly became known as, “Momma Schwartz”. Her helpful demeanor was strongly seen in her daughters’ activities with Sunday School, the Camp Fire Girls, and Band Booster Club.. She enjoyed crafts, particularly needlepoint and art made of seashells.
Doris is survived by her daughters Shirley Odell (Michael) of Vancouver, WA and Deborah Walker (Robert) of Clemmons, NC; grandsons Darrel Smith (Katrina) of North Plains, OR and Kevin Smith (Erin) of Beaverton, OR and great grandchildren Dawson Smith, Aubrey-Ellen Smith, Liam Smith and Kaylee Tyon.
Private services will be held at a later date. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Peace Health Hospice in Vancouver. Arrangements entrusted to Vancouver Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Washington.
