Rodolfo “Rudy” Tayag, age 81, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is survived by his wife Nepthalie (Bisda) Tayag, his three daughters; Maria Theresa Hellwig (Bryan), Anicia Thiessen (Brian), Raquel Fox (Mitch), his five grandchildren; Lucas Hendrix, Ben, Alayna, David Thiessen, and Kai Fox, his sisters; Lita, Aurora, and Luz. Rudy was born January 3, 1939 in Angeles City, Philippines, to Cesario and Victoria (Galang) Tayag, he was the third of eight children. Rudy supported himself through university and graduated from the Feati University in Manila, earning himself a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a gentle, loving, and generous man. Although he was a good provider, he was a simple man; he loved God and he loved his family. He married Nepthalie Bisda on September 7, 1968 and they had four children together, including his son Jose who died shortly after birth in 1971. Rudy was a deep thinker, he was a devout Catholic and enjoyed conversations about religion, he loved nature, and fishing was his most favourite hobby. He also loved his career as an engineer. After a few years working for a chemical company in Manila, he worked overseas on a missile base in Wake Island, Hawaii and would come home once a year to his family. He wanted his family together so he, his wife and three daughters moved to Canada in 1975. After working in Winnipeg, Manitoba for a couple of years, he moved his family to B.C., then to Calgary, Alberta in 1984 where he worked for Alberta Distillers Ltd. Until his retirement in 2007. In 2013, Rudy and his wife decided to spend the rest of their retirement back in B.C. at their favourite retreat overlooking the harbour.
We would like to give a very special thank you to all the medical, nursing, and support staff at St. Paul’s Hospital for all your compassion and support, may God bless you for the good works that you do. To family and friends thank you for your condolences, Rudy loves you all! Rodolfo was a great husband, dad, uncle, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will forever be in our hearts.
