August 25, 1931 – April, 27 2021
Bob passed away in his 89th year with his family by his side. He grew up in Vancouver’s Mt. Pleasant neighbourhood on Scott Street, which later became an extension of Fraser Street. The house where he was born and raised is still standing. It was a loving household thanks to his parents and older siblings: Ken, Lily Bennett (Gordon) and Jan Rae (Ed) – all of whom have passed.
Bob and his chums roamed the city freely on their bikes. They skied, swam, played ball and cheered swashbuckling heroes in the neighbourhood cinemas. He attended Nightingale Elementary and graduated from King Ed High School. He joined CP Air in 1955 and worked there for 38 years, occasionally using his employee pass to see the world. He married the love of his life, Doreen Brisseau, and they enjoyed 64 happy years together. The Brisseaus welcomed him into their family and he learned to massé with ‘The Boys’ on a series of rec room pool tables.
Bob was an easy-going gentleman, whose quiet demeanour drew co-workers and neighbours to him to form great friendships. They will always remember his Captain Sully moustache, wild-blue-yonder eyes and subtle sense of humour.
He is lovingly missed by his wife; daughter Kelly (Doug) and grandkids Levi and Charlotte; son Rob (Leila); sister-in-law Greta (Max); and many nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staff at VGH and Vancouver Hospice for their compassionate care.
