Pak Hoe was born in Hong Kong on the Christmas Eve of 1932. Pak Hoe spent most of his childhood in Macau and he graduated from Pui Ching Middle School in 1949. He then completed a 4-year Electrical Engineering Program in Hwa Kiu University in 1953. After that, he continued his studies in Education and graduated from the Northcote College of Education (Hong Kong) in 1956. After graduation from the Northcote College of Education, he was invited to be the lecturer of Science at the Sarawak Teacher's Training College (established in 1957) in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia. There in Sibu, he met his life-long partner, his loving wife to be, the late Rosemary Ting. They were engaged and married in 1961. Their romance lasted over 60 years and was blessed with seven children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Back to Hong Kong from Sibu, Pak Hoe was the Headmaster of Northcote Training College Past Students' Association School from 1961 to 1964. He then spent the rest, also the majority of his teaching career, at the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lo Yu Chik Primary School before he retired and moved to Canada.
During his career as a teacher, Pak Hoe has touched the lives of so many people and formed many successful relationships that he treasured and left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with. Any of his students who spent just a few class cycles with him could notice what the highest level of teaching excellence looked like. He had a delivery that was both gentle and powerful at the same time. He had command of the classroom and had control of every student’s attention span.
In addition to his efforts in the education field, he enjoyed a life-long passion for Chinese medicine. He used his spare time to complete a 6-year course in Chinese medicine offered by The Kowloon Chinese Herbalist School operated by The Kowloon Chinese Herbalists Association Ltd. in Hong Kong. He started his second career and practiced Chinese medicine on a part-time basis since 1971.
To his wife and children, Pak Hoe is a loving husband, a strong, kind, supportive and dedicated father. He always put his children before himself. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. He is forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts!
Pak Hoe is predeceased by his wife, Rosemary, and is survived by his seven children: Kit Yu of Hong Kong; Claudia and her husband Dana of Vancouver, BC; Eva and her husband Robert of California, US; Mona and her husband Ken of Richmond, BC; Hou Yan of Vancouver, BC; Louise and her husband George of Singapore; and Selina and her husband John of Burnaby, BC.
