Masato Nishi was born in Steveston, British Columbia on January 10th, 1936, and passed away at the age of 88 years, lovingly surrounded by family at home in North Vancouver on October 5th, 2024. He is survived by his wife and devoted life partner of 61 years, Isako (nee Nishihama). Masato was the beloved father to his two daughters, Sharon (Fred), Karen (Michael) and the best Ojichan in the world to his treasured grandson, Sam. He is predeceased by his father Yoshio, mother Yoshie, sister Yaeko, and survived by his brothers Yoshiya, Kiyoshi and Fujio.
Masato was a B.C. Coast commercial salmon fisherman and upon retirement, lived a full life with his wife Isako, appreciated amazing food, enjoyed gardening, travelled to 27 countries, loved his iPad and cheered on his favourite baseball player, Shohei Ohtani.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 17th, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 E Hastings St, Vancouver, British Columbia. A dinner to celebrate his life will follow the service at one of his favourite restaurants, Pink Pearl at 1132 East Hastings Street.
In his memory, donations can be made to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation designated to Hospice & Palliative Care.
