It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kuan-Tsu Lai on January 1, 2023. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty one years Tung-Yeh Lai, her children Meilin, Wen-Lung, and Sulin, as well as her six grandchildren Lewis, Arthur, Emma, Fred, Samantha, and Christina.
Kuan-Tsu lived a fulfilling and joyful life. She was warm, kind, and endlessly generous, and was the heart of her family. She had a hand in raising all of us. She was there for us, willing to listen at all times, and did not hold back on giving advice and wisdom. She was not afraid to tell it like it is, and the things she said came from her heart. She was a natural at giving love.
She played cards with her grandkids, let them hold her ears until they fell asleep as babies, and was patient and laughed with them through all of their mischief. Her presence was comforting to all of us. Her spirit and outlook on life was optimistic and accepting. She welcomed each experience with an open heart, and encouraged all of us to look for the best of things when encountering something new. She brought the family close together with her love, strength, support, and the countless meals that she prepared for us. She was a master cook, and food was her love language. The dishes she made connected us with her and her homeland in Taiwan, shaping us into who we are today. She passed on her skills and recipes to her children and grandchildren, who will continue to make dishes in her memory.
She gave the best hugs.
She will be sorely missed, and she will live on in all of our hearts.
