Gaston Paul Schuler, aged 91, passed away in his hometown of Burnaby on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. He was proud to have been born in Luxembourg, emigrating to Canada when he was 24 years old. He soon met and married his wife of 64 years, Rolanda (née Cleiren), with whom he had two daughters, Chantal and Paula.
After a career as a Fuller Brush salesman, he turned to selling life insurance, and then added financial planning and tax preparation to his resume. In the 1990's, he became one of the first to join the Liberty Tax franchise. He enjoyed trying new foods, grooming his lawn, driving, and traveling, particularly to warm places.
Throughout his life, music was very important to Gaston. As a young boy, he'd sing in church as loudly as he could, so everyone could hear him singing. As an adult, he was a member of several choirs, including over 20 years with the Handel Society of Music. After he retired, he would sit for hours, headphones on, enraptured by music. He loved opera; his favorite aria being "Song to the Moon" from the opera Rusalka.
Gaston is survived by his wife Rolanda, daughters Chantal and Paula (Edward), grandchildren Ariana (Joel), Kieran, Justin, Colin, and Nathan. He will be remembered as a kind, loving gentleman who wanted nothing more than to make everyone around him smile.
