Gerald Van Harris, 88, of Van Buren, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024 in Barling. He was born May 26, 1936 in Cedarville to the late Elzie and Myrtle (Maxey) Harris. He was a mortician and had worked for Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith and retired from Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren. He was a founding member of Concord Baptist Church and the District 6 Rural Fire Department, and instrumental in establishing Evergreen Cemetery in Alma. He was a member of Butterfield Church, sat on the board of Stepping Stone School, was a lifetime member of Gideons International, and was a volunteer firefighter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret S. Harris; and many siblings.
He is survived a daughter, Melody Harris of Van Buren; a son, Robert Harris and wife Fawn of Van Buren; a grand-dog, Hope Sue Harris; and many more friends and family members.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Morgan, Josh Morgan, Chris Fout, David Crow and Cliff Hall.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2024 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Hwy, Van Buren.
