William Franklin Lisenby, loving husband, and father, entered into his eternal rest on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the age of 74. William was born February 23, 1947, in Seattle, Washington to Jane Mary Powell and Herman L. Lisenby.
William's valorous Air Force career began in 1965 at the young age of 18. A highly respected Airman, William achieved numerous military accomplishments and commendations such as the Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. While enlisted, Bill earned his Bachelor’s Degree. He then went on to earn two Master’s Degrees and after serving over 31 years, retired as a Colonel.
He lived an exemplary life of service--giving greatly of himself to God, to his family, and to society. Bill met Margaret Richards, better known as Peggy, through a mutual friend. Shortly after meeting, they wished on a wishbone. On their wedding day, both their wishes came true. Together they raised two children, Tony and Angie. After retiring from the Air Force, Bill began teaching Business Information Systems at St. Phillips Community College. His passion for teaching led him to become the chair of the department. Bill and Peggy traveled extensively over the last 20 years, throughout the U.S. and abroad. The only two continents they were not able to visit together were Australia and Antarctica. However, most cherished times were spent with his family. His love for his family only grew bigger with the birth of their grandchildren. The Lisenby family has always been very close knit. Bill loved going to all the family events and activities, playing games around the dining room table, and tackling his latest puzzle. He loved engaging in philosophical, historical, and political conversations. Bill also sang in the choir of First Baptist Church in Universal City. He also volunteered with the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and Haven for Hope. Bill loved to fellowship with his men’s groups, the Council of Elders and ROMEO’S.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; his son Tony, wife Grace and grandchildren Andrew and Ava (Round Rock, Texas); his daughter Angie, husband Danny and grandchildren Kyle, Ashley, and Kristen (Universal City, Texas); his brother Warren (Skip) Lisenby, wife Kathy (Sultan, Washington); his sister Elizabeth (Betsy) Laster, husband Gerry (Woodinville, Washington); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for William will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 1401 Pat Booker Road, Universal City, Texas 78148. Following the visitation will be a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 1401 Pat Booker Road, Universal City, Texas 78148. A committal service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022, at 9:15 AM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wuzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209 with military honors.
