Michael served in the U.S Air force where he retired. He also worked various other jobs in the grocery business and Terminix where he retired again. He filled his free time with woodworking, fishing, camping, watching his grandchildren play sport or simply spending time with his family. He also enjoyed doing cookoffs with his son. He was a lifetime member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, where he last worked in the Dairy Barn. Michael was additionally associated with the Guadalupe County Fair for a few years.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia Schmedding; his son, Steve Schmedding; his 2 daughters, Christine Frazier and Cathy Harrison; brother, Daniel Schmedding; sisters, Anita Bride, Mary Ann Whiton, and Karen Schmedding; and his grandchildren, Hailee Ellis, Cody Schmedding, Cameryn Harrison, Riker Frazier, and Kaleb Harrison. Michael is preceded in death by his mother and father, Adeline and Herschel Schmedding.
Pallbearers are Cody Schmedding, Riker Frazier, Kaleb Harrison, Clay Ellis, Donald Frazier, and Kevin Harrison.

A visitation for Michael will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148.
