Marsha Dupont Guenther passed away September 9, 2022. She was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up traveling the world as a military brat. Upon graduation from a prominent New York modeling school, she began a short modeling career up until starting a family. Marsha was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother known for her infectious laugh.
Marsha was preceded in death by her mother, Caroline Burns Jark and her father, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Burns, USAF, Ret. In her father’s early days, he was a member of The Three Turtles, a stunt team doing precision formation flying. They were the first team to ever perform slow rolls in formation in the P-5E in 1930. In May of 1943, he was assigned as Chief of Operations of the 8th Air Force fighter command in England. A year and a half later, he was made Director of Operations for the entire 8th Air Force. In July of 1958, he took command of the 5th Air Force in Japan until he was reassigned in 1961 as chairman of the Inter-American Defense Board in Washington D.C. At the same time, he was appointed senior Air Force Member of the Military Staff committee of the United Nations. His last duty station was as Commander of Air Training Command 1963-64. Her grandfather, Col. Archibald Miller, was an aviator of the Bill Mitchel era, and was one of the first Air Corps officers. He had just completed the National War College in Washington D.C. when he was killed in a plane crash on Memorial Day, 1921. He had been awarded the Medal of Honor in 1912 by President William H. Taft. Her great grandfather, Brig. Gen. Samuel Marmaduke Whitside founded Ft. Huachuca, Arizona when he was a Captain in 1877.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lt. Col. Thomas N. Glenn Sr., USAF, Ret. and Major Louis A. Dupont, USAF, Ret., a career Fighter Pilot. She is survived by her husband, Col. E.W. (Gus) Guenther, USAF, Ret. also a career Fighter Pilot and two children, Madeline L. Dupont and her husband, Elad M. of Los Angeles and Caroline Dupont Lee and her husband, David K. Lee of Las Vegas; and step son, Barry Guenther. She was preceded in death by two children, Lt. Col. Thomas N. Glenn Jr., USAF, Ret. And Gwen M. Dupont; She also leaves four grandchildren, Casey L. Dupont, Kyle Glenn, Alyssa Glenn, and Justin A. Price.
