At a young age Larry knew he wanted to serve his country. At 16 he joined the Illinois National Guard from 1959 to 1960. In 1962 Larry joined the United States Air Force. There he served for 21 years. Larry served his country in Korea and Vietnam. Larry was stationed overseas and stateside at several Air Force bases.
Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of senior master sergeant. He received numerous awards, small arms expert marksmanship ribbon, arm forces expeditionary medal, NCO professional military education ribbon. AF Good conduct medal. AF Commendation medal with one oak leaf cluster. Air Force Commendation medal with one oak leaf cluster. Meritorious Service medal with two oak leaf clusters
After retiring from the Air Force, he became a mail carrier in New Braunfels, TX for the next 20 years.
Over at Larry’s lifetime he enjoyed bowling golfing fishing and hunting. Larry was a diehard Spurs fan and Chicago Cubs fan.
Larry was a member of Centerpoint Baptist Church. Larry has served on numerous boards and committees. He served in the hill country colorguard and a member of the VFW in Kerrville Texas.
Larry Morphey and Barbara Gates in 1967 we’re blessed with their first daughter Tisha Armstead (Keith Armstead), Larry and Barbara were blessed with two more children,

Larry was lovingly known as PaPaw to his five grandchildren.

Larry was a friend to many and treasured those friendships. Larry entered eternal grace on May 15, 2019 where he joined his son Larry Curtis Junior his parents and his two brothers.
Our family thanks all for the prayers and messages from those who knew our dad. He was an amazing Pa paw!! We will miss him!! Rest well daddy we love you!!
