Joseph White

On August 7, 2023, Joseph White received orders for his final duty assignment in life. He was a decorated member of the United States Air Force, serving for 23 years and retiring at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas at the high rank of Master Sergeant. He was also retired from the United States Postal Service. He loved the military, and the military loved him. He mentored many troops and gained the friendship of many of his superiors, including Daniel (Danny) Grant, Ret. Master Sergeant, Eugene (Gene) Wills, Ret. Chief Master Sergeant, and Lieutenant Colonel Michael Anderson.

Joseph was admired by many as a husband and father. At age 25, he met the love of his life, Oria N. Jones of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Together, Joseph and Oria had five children, Felicia D. White, Corissa L. White, Santina A. White, Demetria C. White, and Darrick C. White, all of Texas. Joseph was a great father to his five biological children and a great father figure to so many others he met along his journey through life. He had a caring heart and was always there for anyone whose father was not around.

Joseph learned from his father, David White, what it meant to be a sharp dresser, and he was named after David’s younger brother, his uncle Joseph White. He learned from his praying mother, Virginia White, what it meant to live a life dedicated to God. As he left for the military, she advised him to Bless the Lord; O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. (Psalm 103:1). Virginia mothered the most beautiful siblings to Joseph. Joseph's six siblings are Viola Ancrum, William “Wille” “Big Bubba” White, Hezekiah White, Betty White, David “Bubba” White, and Lavinia “Fe” White.

Joseph leaves behind his former spouse, his five children, his siblings Betty and Hezekiah, and a host of nieces and two nephews that simply referred to him as “Unc.” He also leaves behind many close friends, including Lorraine Grant, Bobby and Margarine Mungin, James “Buck” Edwards Rumph, James Judge, Doug and Lucille Allen, Marianne Jones, Sherri Adam, Gaye Adam, and Cathy Adam Williams, David Bell, AC Carter, Charlie Gilmore, and his best friend Douglas Johnson.

As a student at Burke High School in Charleston, SC, Joseph White excelled and graduated in 1961. Known as Joe Black, he was a prominent baseball player at Burke High School.

Joseph served his assignment as husband, father, and friend with honor, and now he in services for Jesus.
