Her husband Ernest L. Whitfield, her parents, sisters Lourena Luster and Doren Davis, brother Tommie Davis Jr, daughter Donna S. Whitfield, and grandson Jarard Christopher Harrison preceded her in death.
Jeanette attended Soldan High School in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating, on February 3, 1962 she married Ernest Whitfield, who had recently joined the United States Air Force. They had various duty stations including San Antonio in which they would come back to and retire. During their duty station in Japan, Jeanette was an active member in the NCO Wives Club. They were also known for their house parties while there.
In 1974, she moved back to San Antonio, Texas where she worked at JC Penneys and Chelsea Street Bar while attending Cosmetology School. She worked at Supercuts and later became the manager at Sally’s Beauty Supply on Walzem Road. After leaving Sally’s, she finally decided to open up a salon with a friend in Converse, TX. Besides doing hair, she also enjoyed arts and crafts, and knitting in which she made numerous blankets for her kids and grandkids. Her all-time favorite hobby was shopping at Walmart and Hobby Lobby…buying stuff on sale she didn’t actually need.
Also upon returning to San Antonio, she was an active member of Savannah Baptist Church in Marion, Tx and also joined the local chapter of the Eastern Stars.
On October 6, 2024, Jeanette departed this life leaving to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Delores Hopkins, Michelle “Neesy” Harrison (Mose Jr), Yolanda “Nikki” Barnes (Frank Jr); 7 grandchildren, Moses Harrison III, Jasmine Whitfield, Frank Barnes III (Breha), Kyle Boutte, Darius Harrison, Brandon Lowery, and Malia Barnes; 2 great grandchildren, Ja’Leah Anderson and Frank Barnes IV; one sister, Rita Wilson; one brother, Byron Davis; two sisters-in-law, Rita Davis and Mona Davis; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
