Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, George J. Lara, Sr. entered eternal rest on December 26th, 2021.
He was born May 10th, 1949 to Ofelia and Jose Escojido in Victoria, Texas as the 4th oldest of 14 children. In 1968, George graduated from Victoria High School; after which he volunteered for the United States Army. During that time George served a tour of duty in Vietnam and earned the rank of Sergeant.
Upon his return to Victoria, George met his future wife Dora Bustos. In 1971, they married and moved to San Antonio where they started a family. Later that year, he was honorably discharged from the Army and joined the National Guard.
In 1975, the family moved to Universal City where he began working on Randolph Air Force Base. During his 43 years of employment on Randolph, George obtained his Associates degree from St Philip’s College.
He was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order for 32 years, and an active choir member at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. George was also involved in RCIA, nursing home ministry, prison ministry, and volunteered at the state hospital.
George was a man of faith who loved and served the Lord throughout his life. He had a servant’s heart that reached out to ALL people. His simple way of evangelizing brought many people to Christ.
After a courageous fight with a long illness, he went Home. The deceased is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mary Ortega, Rose Poncio, Hortencia Chapa, Juanita Guevara; and brothers Johnny Lara, and Joe Mauro Escojido.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Theodora Lara; sons George J Lara, Jr (Sabrina), Anthony Lara (Rose); daughter Elisa Head (Frank); grandchildren Felix, Xochitl, Anthony, and Jude Lara; and Viviana, Evangelina, and Francesca Head; brothers Lucio Lara (Grace), Jesse Escojido; sisters Olga Salazar, Isabel Lara, Carmen Ramirez (Robert), all of Victoria, Texas; Gloria Olguin (Raymond) of Bloomington, Texas, and Lydia Flores (Johnny) of Inez, Texas; aunts Lupe Aguilar (Jose Luis), of Michigan, Juanita Valencia (Juan Manuel) and family of Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico; also numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
