Elizabeth Anne “Betsy” Hedgepeth, age 84, of San Antonio, Texas, died September 28, 2014. She was born to the late Paul L. Flye and Lillie Satterfield Flye on February 15, 1930 in Greenville, North Carolina. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Oliver P. “Jack” Hedgepeth, Lt. Colonel (USAF Retired); son Timothy P. Hedgepeth and life partner, Rene’ P. Barilleaux of San Antonio; son James Todd Hedgepeth, Lt. Colonel (USAF Retired) and wife Peggy Rayfield of Garden Ridge, TX; daughter Bettina Ruth Howard and husband R. Scott Howard, Lt. Colonel (USAF Retired); and her precious grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth, Jack Robert, and Matthew Scott Howard of Schertz, TX, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy F. Aldridge of Greenville, NC and Delphia Rittenhouse of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers W. Paul Flye and Richard Flye of Greenville, NC; Robert E. Flye of Nashville, TN; Larry Flye of Tulare, CA, and Alton Flye of Jacksonville, FL. She will be deeply missed by her sisters Lilly Van Story of Fayetteville, NC, and Alice McGowan of Brentwood, TN; and sisters-in-law Charlotte Flye, Thelma E. Flye, Joyce B. Flye, Ann Evans, Sylvia Flye and numerous nieces and nephews. Betsy worshipped at Chapel 1 on Randolph Air Force Base for twenty nine years. She was employed on Randolph Air Force Base and Fort Sam Houston, retiring in 1992. She enjoyed life to the fullest and valued her many friends. Sincerest gratitude is extended to Dr. Mark Rodriguez, Dr. Richard Fischer, and the staff of VITAS Hospice Care; especially Ron Laza and Debria Mitchell. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 5 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX. Funeral services will be held at Colonial Funeral Home at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 6 followed by a graveside service at Fort Sam National Cemetery at 1:45 PM.
