Edna Eloise Laird (82), Jan.11, 1940-Nov. 22, 2022, was a Military wife of 21 years. Also, a Child Development Provider of 27 years. Loving mother of six, grandmother of 26, great grandmother of 25. She always had an open door for those needing a place to spend the night. She was born in Corpus Christi, TX to Edna Pearl Estes and Luther South. She grew up watching her sister (Elizabeth) and brother (Wayne) while her parents worked the fields. In 1956 she married her [ex] husband, MSGT Glyn Laird; they were married for 33 years. She had 4 sons, and adopted 2 daughters; she worked for the Kessler Air Force base Child Care Services in Biloxi, MS and then for the McConnell AFB Child Care Services in Wichita, KS. She retired in 2007 from the Federal Child Care Services, and shortly thereafter she moved to Universal City, TX.
Edna is survived by [5 of her 6] children: Glyn Dale Laird (Sheri) of Anchorage, AK, Ray Laird of Universal City, TX, Terry Laird (Tina) of Wichita, KS, Susan Mims of Poplarville, MS, and Denise Dean Sparacino (Jeff) of Salina, KS. She is preceded in death by her son Bruce Laird.
There will be a viewing between 5pm to 8pm on Monday Nov. 28th at the Colonial Funeral Home at 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX 78148. Funeral service will be at the Converse 1st Baptist Church 9162 FM 78, Converse, TX 78109 at 11am on Tuesday, November 29th. There will be a Graveside service; it will be at 1:30pm that same day at Sabinal Cemetery just before you go into Sabinal on the right hand side of HWY 90.
