Carol Bowers, age 76, passed away on November 2nd, 2021 due to complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. She bravely fought to the end for just one more day. That spirit was possible because the love of her life, Jim Bowers, lovingly cared for her at home throughout the illness, just as he had promised he would do.
Born on August 5, 1945 in Bossier City, LA at Barksdale Air Force Base, Carol moved to Schertz, TX when she was 2 years old where she resided at her death.
She began her dance through life in grade school where she took tap, ballet and toe dancing classes on Randolph AFB. She progressed so quickly that the instructor had her teach ballet and toe dancing to the young girls who lived on base. She continued her love for all types of dancing through the years and was even known to lead a conga line of grandchildren through the house.
It will come as no surprise that Carol was a Cheerleader in school, as she carried that spirit through her entire life. She stayed active with her classmates for many years after graduating by helping with planning and attending annual class reunions through the past 40 years.
Carol and Jim were married on July 31, 1981. Their love and dedication to each other were boundless. They were true soulmates who complemented one another in so many ways. Whether it be having drinks by the backyard pool, gliding in a golf cart down the beaches of Port Aransas or heading up Friday afternoon happy hour groups, they lived a joyous life together.
When not with Jim, she loved her oil painting classes, having a blast with her Water Babes exercise group (where she was the youngest babe) and playing the penny slots in Vegas!
As fun loving as Carol was, it paled in comparison to her fierce loyalty and love that she had for her family including sister Janis Weinheimer (Mark) and sister in law Henri Borders. The boundless love extended to her two children, Rob Edwards (Helen) and Deborah Jimenez (Oscar) and eight grandchildren Matt Franke (Emily), Mark Franke (Hannah), Stephen Franke (Diana), Michael Edwards, Chandlee Fest, Jessica Jimenez, Ashlyn Jimenez and Nate Raymond (Catherine). There could be no great-grandmother that was more adored by their 7 great grandchildren than Carol. She was welcomed in heaven by her brother Richmond, her parents Chris and Adger Borders, stepfather Ralph, her niece Jacqui and many other family and friends.
While on the surface it might seem that Carol lived life like a party, she also had an impactful serious side as an accomplished business professional. She worked for Central Freight Lines in the business office for decades beginning as a clerk and ending her career as the Office Manager for the San Antonio division. In that capacity, she traveled the country training employees and implementing systems for efficiency. In a time when diversity was not rolling off the tongues of every business leader Carol blazed a trail in a “man’s world” and the company benefited tremendously. Following her retirement from Central Freight she worked side by side with Jim in the company that they founded, Double Diamond Transport.
It is almost impossible to remember Carol without smiling. She was infectious and fun. She made friends with every waiter or waitress where she always asked “what is your very favorite dish” followed by “and your favorite dessert”? So today, think of Carol and smile and have some delicious chocolate dessert. And you will feel her smile all around your heart, where she now lives.
The family would like to offer sincere thanks to Valerie Peterson, RN with Heart of Texas Hospice, who offered amazing and loving care in the final days. And, for those interested, please make a donation in Carol’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
