Born May 5th, 1943 in Paducah, Ky. Billie Lee Jones spent most of his youth in Kentucky and Indiana. He served his country in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the early years of the Vietnam War. Moving his family to Texas in 1979, he fell in love with his adoptive state. He was an accomplished carpenter and craftsman whose gifted hands touched numerous area homes and businesses.
Affectionately known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, he was called home Monday January 16th, after succumbing to his battle with cancer. He is survived by a son, Robert Jones and his wife Lori of Boerne; his two daughters Michelle Minton and her husband Greg Minton of Round Rock; and Cheryl Plauche` and her husband Dr. Bill Plauche` of Sherman; seven grandchildren: SPC Dane Jones, Mara Jones, Broc Jones, Madison Minton, Mason Minton, Avalon Plauche`, and Hunter Plauche`. He also leaves behind his long time companion, Stephanie Trembley of Live Oak. Billie was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Jones and Ruth Henry Jones of Paducah, Ky. and older brother Sgt. Major Bobbie Jones of Ft. Benning, Ga. as well as his first wife Mary Dickey Jones of Sherman.
Billie was born into a hardscrabble place and a world at war. He did the best he could to provide for his children and leave them in a better condition than he knew as a child, and in a better place. He did.
