She was born on November 19, 1949 in Mesa, Arizona to Hubert Senior Jerrell and Virginia Ballard Snow.
Barb spent her childhood in Phoenix, Arizona, attending Monte Vista elementary/middle school and Camelback High School. She attended Phoenix College and also became a certified dental assistant.
She enjoyed going on vacations with her family. During her younger years in high school, she enjoyed football and basketball games. In her senior year, she met the young man who would become the love of her life, Eric Stephen Schell. They were married June 12, 1971 and sealed in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on November 30, 1973. They enjoyed 53 years together. Their sons, Matthew, Ryan, Jonathan, and Jason, of San Antonio, TX, will miss her constant joy in being with them and wanting to help them in everything they did. The posterity that she took great joy in also includes 7 grandchildren.
Barb was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Through her adult years, she held many callings and found great joy in serving and working with others, especially with young children and in the Cub Scout organization. She eventually "graduated" to the Young Women organization, aged 12-18, and spent many years at girls camps and other activities.
Barb also worked many years as a substitute teacher or aide in the classroom. She especially enjoyed it while we were stationed in England because she was able to participate with the children on field trips and see many things she might not have.
When our family moved to San Antonio in 1990, she began substitute teaching at Ed White Middle School and eventually became the assistant librarian. When she retired from the school system she found a new hobby: Family History.
She researched the ancestry from both our family trees and enjoyed it so much she became a family history consultant for our church and volunteered in the FamilySearch Center for many years. For many years she has assisted in planning the annual Family History seminars held by our church and this year was no different. She played a significant role in organizing this year’s seminar and her absence was deeply felt.
She also enjoyed working in the community, having just helped serve the first responders on Sept. 11, just a few weeks ago.
However, her greatest joy was in her family. She loved being with them, and she spent every minute she could with them.
Barb was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Elizabeth Jeane, her brother, Gregory Wilson Jerrell, and her parents.
Our family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Brook Army Medical Center for their outstanding care of Barb.
