Marie Mahony

Marie Mahony, 79, passed away on November 28, 2017. She is survived by her loving daughters: Eileen Mahony Velez and her husband Lou, Noreen Mahony and her partner Anthony Sardella, and Marie Ann Mahony and her husband Matthew Kirk Sorensen, and her beautiful grandchildren: Brianna Velez, Michael Mahony, Bridget Marie Velez, Fionn Mahony Sorensen and Ronan Jeremiah Sorensen. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of over 40 years, Michael Mahony.

At the tender age of 17, Marie was the first of her family to emigrate from Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, Ireland to Elizabeth, NJ where she met her true love, Michael. Marie became the kind and gentle matriarch of the family and loved spending time with her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. Her mission in life was being a champion for her daughters’ happiness, education and well-being. She loved Irish music and culture. She always had a warm smile, easy laugh, an understanding ear and a caring heart that welcomed everyone.

A visitation for Marie will be held at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, on December 1 from 4-8pm, and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 on December 2 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1096 North Ave, Elizabeth, followed by a burial at St, Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia.
