John Patrick Buczynski, 26, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 2, 2023, with his loving family at his side. Better known as “Johnny B” by family and friends, he grew up in Roselle, NJ, was a proud 2018 graduate of ECLC’s Chatham School and loved working at their adult vocational program, PRIDE, over the past five years.
To know Johnny was to love him. From a young age, he effortlessly captured the hearts of others with his gentle and sweet demeanor, charisma, and great sense of humor. Johnny enjoyed music (like Pearl Jam and Elton John), taking road trips (New York City and the Jersey Shore were his favorites), good food (he was a sandwich, bagel, and pizza connoisseur), shopping (especially with his Mother) and reciting lines from his favorite movies (Home Alone, Forrest Gump, Big Daddy).
Above all else, Johnny’s greatest love was for his family. He was the cherished son of Annie and Gary Buczynski; dear brother of Michael and Erin Buczynski; and adoring uncle to Steven John (SJ) Buczynski. He was the beloved nephew of Diane and Joseph Sileo, Mary and William Laverty, Patricia and Brian Teitelbaum, Patricia Buczynski and Wasyl Bojczuk; as well as the “favorite” of his cousins who were like siblings to him, including Jessica, Keith and Hudson Barber; Dominick Sileo; Brendan and Candace Laverty; Katy, Adam and Mara Sileo-Gooch; Bridget Laverty; Megan, Daniel, Remi and Frankie Matrisciano; Connor and Taylor Laverty; and Sarah, Danny and Claire Teitelbaum.
Among his many nicknames, one of the most fitting was “Johnny the Mayor” – he was an old soul with the gift of gab. He had a special way of connecting with others, bringing people together, and lighting up a room with love. Johnny never missed an opportunity to celebrate life. He especially loved birthdays, the holidays, surprise parties, and delivering toasts. Despite the challenges that came with his rare disease (Neurofibromatosis – NF1), Johnny was always positive, never fearful, and never complained. He approached life head on, and did it with strength, resilience, and grace. He appreciated the little things, and we can honor his legacy by doing the same.
Johnny was one-of-a-kind and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community. He will forever be our “Johnny Angel.”
In lieu of flowers, donations to “Making Headway Foundation” https://makingheadway.org would be graciously appreciated.
