John was born in Newark to loving parents John F. and Florence Blank. John was educated in the Union public school system. In 1965 John went on to enlist in the U.S. Army, he proudly served for 1 year at the Nike Hercules Center in Hartford Connecticut. John followed that term with 2 years in Naples Italy at the NATO Headquarters where he worked in their main office.
In 1968 John was discharged from the Army and two Months later he married the love of his life Janis Rahner. Together they had one child, Sonja Christine whom he adored. John also continued his service in the National guard at the Elizabeth, NJ Armory.
John worked at Exxon Chemical Co. for over 27 years as a computer operator until their merger with Mobil Oil in 1995. John was an active member of American Legion Post 35 in Union, presiding as a past Commander, County Vice Commander and Chaplin.
John was a loving husband, a dear father, and a great friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
John was predeceased by his Mother and Step Father Chester and Florence Mielish. Sister Alanajean Strapp (Nee Blank).
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his loving wife of over 55 years Janis, daughter Sonja Christine,his beloved cat Sierra, and a host of friends.
A visitation for John will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083.
A funeral service will occur Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 11:00 AM, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083.
A graveside service to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.
