Gregg Alan Dickey, age 76, of Little Falls, NJ, passed away due to complications brought on by Parkinson’s disease at the Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ on March 21, 2024. He was born on November 18, 1947 in East Orange, NJ to Doris (Reid) Dickey and Robert Dickey. Gregg grew up in Livingston, NJ where he graduated from Livingston High School in 1965. He then attended St. Francis College in Loretto, PA, where he was a proud member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Gregg taught Spanish at Governor Livingston High School in Berkely Heights, NJ for several years following graduation from St. Francis. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in School Administration from Kean University. In 1976, he joined the United States Secret Service as a Special Agent. Gregg served as a Special Agent for 20 years, working in various positions in NY, NJ and Washington D.C., including several presidential campaigns and details. After retiring from the Secret Service in 1996, Gregg took the position of Dean of Students at West Orange High School. He later became the Principal of School Eleven in Clifton, NJ where he worked for over 15 years. Gregg enjoyed telling stories from his Secret Service days, going out to dinner with his best friend and life partner, Sandy Sroka, watching his grandsons play sports and spending time with his beloved dog, Reagan (named after one of the many Presidents Gregg served). He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather who never missed a birthday and was known to show up at his grandsons’ birthday parties dressed as their favorite cartoon character. Gregg loved science fiction books and movies and cherished spending time with his family, especially holiday dinners with the extended family. Gregg was preceded in death by sister Kathryn Dickey (1946), father Robert Elwood Dickey (1983) and mother Doris Kathryn Dickey (2009). He is survived by daughter Kim (Dickey) Pentangelo of Westfield, NJ, son Michael J. Dickey, also of Westfield, NJ and son-in-law Steven Pentangelo and daughter-in-law Sydney Dickey. Gregg was devoted to his five grandsons Matthew Meusel, Brady Meusel, Jacob Dickey, Ian Dickey and Cameron Dickey as well as his long-term partner and best friend Sandra Sroka of Clifton, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Cassian Church, 187 Bellevue Ave., Montclair, NJ 07043 on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM followed by burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 712 Grove St, Montclair, NJ 07043.
