Ray is survived by his wife; Judy McCool (Née Wunschel); his children Cindy, Nacole, Michelle, and Raymond; his grandchildren Taylor, Jared, Ari, Skyler, Josh, Aiden, and Cora.
Raymond was born on July 31st, 1954 to the late Fredrick and Marie McCool. He graduated from Union Hill high school in Union City, NJ, and went on to join the Union City Police Department. During those years, he found himself forming many deep-rooted bonds throughout the force where he found that acquaintances became friends, and those friends eventually became family. As Ray's time on the force surpassed twenty years his children would ask him when he thought he would retire, the answer was always: ‘Until the job is no longer fun’. Seven years later he took on a new role, that of a grandfather. A mantel that would inspire a new era of fun in his life. He would retire after 27 years of service to devote his time to protecting and serving his expanding family.
Raymond was a devoted father and fan of the New York Yankees and the New Jersey Jets (he was adamant about that part). In his spare time, Ray was an avid contractor working on projects with his son and enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife.
Ray was a no-nonsense straight talker, who would speak his mind when the moment struck him. If he did a soft spot, it was spent doting on his grandchildren. He would frequently state: “I like my kids... I love my grandkids”. Rays' presence and strength will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A service is scheduled for Saturday, July 1st, 2023 from 3:00pm – 8:00pm at Leber Funeral Home, 2000 Kennedy Blvd, Union City, N.J. 07087.
