Maureen Ann Lorme was born on December 4, 1942, to Edward Mikey Lorme and Helen Liggett Lorme in Brooklyn, New York. She married in 1963 and moved to a quiet suburb in Uncasville, CT. Trained as a bookkeeper, she worked many years in New London before taking a job with the state at Off Track Betting. This was one of her favorite jobs, and she loved conversing with the regulars. She also loved music and always enjoyed going out to dance. It was also around this time that she started to travel, visiting family in Cavan, Ireland, and exploring France, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, and Australia. Later in life, being very outgoing, Maureen enjoyed being part of the Red Hat organization.
Maureen was very proud of her Irish heritage from her mother’s side of the family, and St. Patrick’s Day was one of the most important holidays for her. She also took pride in her father’s side of the family, knowing that there were many talented artists, including JT Lorme, who worked on many monuments around the country, including the base of the Statue of Liberty.
Maureen was known for her kindness and for being charitable, always helping someone in need and often paying for servicemen’s meals at restaurants. Her generosity and kindness touched many lives.
