He was born in Norwich, CT on May 6, 1939 to the late Antonio J. and Shirley (Aldrich) Longo Jr. He attended Norwich Free Academy and soon thereafter in 1959 opened Longo’s Pizza & Grinder in Uncasville. It was some five months into the endeavor that he met his future bride, Alice, who had come to work for him. Over time the business has morphed into A & J’s Café. John’s (and Alice’s) favorite part of being in business the past 52 plus years was enjoying the time spent with their clientele, many of which they considered family. John, with his three brothers, was also co-owner of Longo’s Plaza where the café is located. John was predeceased by his wife Alice (Babcock) who passed on November 3, 2006. He is survived by his 3 sons, John Jr. (& wife Kelly), Richard, and Kenneth; 3 brothers, Antonio J. III (& wife Elizabeth), William R. (& wife Arlyne) and Joseph (& wife Patricia); 5 grandchildren, John III, Tina, Shane, Dylan, and Nicole, and 1 great-grandchild, Madison along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 6pm – 9pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11am with a calling hour for one hour prior. Burial will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Uncasville, CT.
