Custom obit with a small picture on Monday
Cryptside services for Mickey Thomas Richey, 81, of Whitehouse are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Rose Hill Mausoleum with Larry Morris officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Mickey Thomas Richey was born December 7,1929, in Woodsboro,
Texas, to P.C. and Jimmie Williams Thomas. She graduated from
Woodsboro High School in 1947 and from Texas Women's University in
Denton, Texas, in 1951. She also attended Texas A&M University in
Commerce, Texas, and The University of Texas at Tyler. Education was a
lifelong pursuit.
She married William E. Richey in 1950, and the couple moved to
Tyler in 1955, where they raised their family. He was a petroleum engineer
and founded Hombre Oil Company. Later the couple moved to their
beloved Lake Tyler and enjoyed living there for 29 years, surrounded by
family and friends.
Mrs. Richey was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was
also a science teacher for Tyler ISD and All Saints Episcopal School. She
contributed much to her community and volunteered for hospice work. Of
all her achievements, she often said that she was "most proud of my family."
Mrs. Richey suffered the sudden loss of her eyesight four years ago,
and continued to live her life with grace, dignity, and a keen sense of humor.
She was a lady, in the truest sense of the word.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Richey, to
whom she was married almost 60 years. She is survived by Karen Richey
Gleason, daughter, and her husband, Bill, of Jefferson, Texas; Karol Richey
Morris, daughter, and her husband, Larry, of Whitehouse, Texas; Kelly E.
Richey, son, and his wife, Debra, of Whitehouse, Texas; Kristen Richey
Kimberley, daughter, of Jackson, Mississippi. She leaves behind several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She passed away March 25,2011,
less than a year after the death of her husband.
The family would like to extend thanks to those who have so
compassionately and skillfully cared for our mother. Among them are Dr.
and Mrs. Rodney Wiseman and nurse Laura Bettinger; the staff at Home-
Aid, LLC; the staff at Atria Copeland Senior Living Group, the workers at
Heart to Heart Hospice, and various other individuals too numerous to mention.
If desired, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity in lieu
of flowers.
