John L. Barnes, Jr. was born May 19, 1947, to John Sr. & Juanita Barnes, Omelia Edwards, (deceased). He is a graduate of Emmett J. Scott High School, class of 1966. He graduated from Midland College but also attended Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler. John served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Amoco Oil Company for 23 years.
John became an ordained deacon on February 19, 2006. He was a member of The Cross Baptist Church. He loved to read, watch movies, cooking, fishing, traveling, shopping and spending time with his beloved dog Missy and his grand dog, Ginger, affectionately called Peewee.
John married Pauline Barnes, the love of his life, on February 14, 1986. Together they share four children.
Those left to cherish his precious memory are his wife of 37 years, Pauline Barnes; children: Christe Ball (Mychael), Jennifer Barnes, Melody Hopkins, and Clem Edward Hopkins (Tiffanie); five grandchildren: Collette Whitehead (Gerald), Whitley Campbell, Jalynn Campbell, Jessica Scott (Zach), Ashley Hopkins; and, seven great-grandchildren: Jaleighala, Amari, Charlize, Eden Joi, Emery, Quinn, and Teddie. John also leaves siblings: Cathey Walker (Donnie Sr.), Melinda McKenzie (James), LeAndrea Jackson (Alonzo), Rena Breaux (Oliver), Cynthia Miller, Jonathan Barnes, Gloria Spurlock, Earlene Solomon (Freddie), Carolyn Bay and Carl Edwards (Clara); sister-in-law: Linda Butler (Carl E. Barnes Sr., deceased); and a host of cousins, nieces,
A visitation for John will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM. At New Life Community Church, 1201 NNW loop 323, Tyler, TX 75709.
John will be laid to rest in Tyler Memorial Park, Tyler, TX.
