Donnie Harriet Messer

Donnie was born on January 14, 1917, in Brandon, Texas, to W.T. and Mittie Duncan, she was a twin to brother Tommie Daniel Duncan.

Donnie lived most of her life in Tyler, attended Tyler schools and graduated from Tyler High. She lived 22 years in the Washington D.C. area where she and her husband raised their four children. Donnie was a long time member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church and Tyler Rebekah Lodge #142.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Ross A. Messer. Her day of passing would have been their 77th wedding anniversary. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gilbert (Gil) Messer, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her son, Bruce, and wife Meri-Margaret Messer of Ben Wheeler, daughter, Merryl, and husband Phil Kloster of Mansfield, and daughter, Martha (Marty), and husband, Melton (Mel) Shepherd of Tyler. Additionally, she (Nana) is survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Chapel at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home at 1 PM on Monday, August 22, with funeral services following at 2 PM. A private burial will be held for the family at Tyler Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family would like to extend special thanks for the love and gratitude shown by the staff of The Hamptons at Pine Forest and Hospice of East Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Hospice of East Texas.
