Victor Bonner Jr, age 85, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama departed from this life to his heavenly home on December 29, 2023, at DCH Regional Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL. As his body died peacefully in the arms of his youngest son, his soul transcended into heaven. Victor was the youngest of seven children born to Victor Bonner Sr. and Velma Mullenix Bonner on May 23, 1938 in Berry, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (Erston, Alton, Archie, Arlic), two sisters (Eathil Biggers, Lois Dutton), and grandson Ben Bonner. Victor graduated from Berry High School in Fayette County and attended the University of Alabama, where he met and married the love of his life, Faye Roberts Bonner, his "sugarbabe" in 1958. They were married for 65 years. Victor and Faye had four children Vic, Lisa, David, and Randy. Victor loved God and put Him first in his life. He wanted others to know and love God through different ministries including pastoring. conducting revivals, tent, radio, Christian Prayer Resources (CPR), and nursing home ministries. Before entering the ministry, Victor worked as a licensed pest control operator in Alabama and Mississippi for ten years and owned a franchise of Guaranty Pest Control. Victor was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1969, dedicating 50 years to pastoring churches in Alabama, Mississippi, and North Carolina. In 2019, family and friends celebrated his 50th year of ministry at Skyland Baptist Church. Victor was an active participant in association and state missions of Alabama and Mississippi, notably delivering the first message to the Mississippi Baptist Pastor Conference in 1986. Victor served as President of the Alabama Bivocational Pastors Fellowship for three years. He loved his family and taught them, by word and example, to love and trust God and to serve Him. He baptized all 4 of his children and has been actively involved in family's special occasions such as baby dedications, marriages, etc. His heart warming smile and firm handshake will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Faye (Sugarbabe) Roberts Bonner; son Victor Bonner III (Carla) of Tupelo, MS; daughter Lisa Miller (Charles) of Millport, AL; son James David Bonner of Tuscaloosa, AL; and son Randy Bonner (Michelle) of Asheville, NC. his children Vic, Lisa, David, and Randy. cherished granddaughters Kristin Bonner McDaniel (Mark), Kathryn Bonner Street (Justin), Victoria Miller, and Priscilla Bonner, and his loving grandsons Christopher Miller (Haley), Caleb Bonner, ten great grandchildren, 8 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and cousins along with 1 sister-in-law. Pallbearers are Christopher Miller, Mark McDaniel, Steve Chanelle, Cassidy Bonner, Kyle Rudowski, and Marty Wilson. The family expresses deep gratitude to DCH Hospital's Sth floor, 3rd floor- MICU, as well as to all doctors and nurses. Special thanks to caregiver Keira Johnson, Dot Rice, and the supportive communities of Skyland Baptist Church, Springhill Baptist Church, Gospel Light Baptist Church, Palmetto Baptist Church, and all previous church members at churches he pastored. There were 14 ministers licensed or ordained during his ministry. They also extend heartfelt thanks to friends, relatives, and neighbors for their prayers, visits, food, calls, and texts. The family takes comfort in knowing that Victor is now in Heaven, the place he passionately preached about throughout his ministry.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with interment following at Memory Hills Garden The lead pastor, Jon Wiggins, along with other ministers will be officiating the service.
