She is preceded in death by her husband, William G. Gibson and parents, George Truett Riley and Edna A. Riley.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin G. Smith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Dana G. Whitt (Mike) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sons, Charles Gibson (Rose) of Dothan, Alabama and Darron Gibson (Cindy) of Cottondale, Alabama; grandchildren, Kristina Acker, Logan Whitt, Devon Gibson, Shelby Gibson, Christopher Gibson, Kathrine Jones, Elizabeth Sorrels and Lora Dialo; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Gracyn, Aliva, Julianna, Eli, Kaden, and Alice.
Sarah was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 19, 1939 she graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1957. She met the love of her life, Billy Gibson, and they were married on June 7, 1957. They lived, laughed and loved during their 65 years of marriage and were blessed with 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Sarah worked in the grocery store business for many years where she was one of the first females in management for Brunos, Inc. Upon retirement, she delighted in caring for her grandchildren and later joined her husband Billy, in the antique business and contract delivery work until her final retirement in 2019. Sarah loved her Lord and Savior and eagerly told everyone that Jesus loved them and shared stories about salvation with them. One of her favorite things to tell people was "God Bless You". She greatly loved her church and her church family.
Pallbearers are Mike Whitt, Logan Whitt, Devon Gibson, Christopher Gibson, Brayden Smith, Layne Gilliland and Jesse Sorrells.
Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Sara Johnson, all members of East McFarland Baptist Church, Coty Wade, Hospice of West Alabama and all medical staff that took care of her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to East McFarland Baptist Church, Hospice of West Alabama or a charity of your choice.
A visitation for Sarah will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd East, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00. To follow the funeral service will be a committal service in the adjoining cemetery in the garden of Christus.
