Sara Lousie Allen

She was born on March 20, 1927 in Centreville, Alabama, the daughter of Myrtle Ragland Martin and Andrew Murray Martin. She joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps near the end of World War II when she was seventeen years old. She married John G. Allen in 1946. They raised three children and were married for almost 74 years. Sara attended Hopewell Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa for many years before transferring her membership to First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, where she was a longtime member of the Good Samaritan Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Feronica Garden Club. Sara loved people and she loved to be active; she devoted a great amount of her life to visiting the sick and helping those in need. She and Johnny loved to play bridge and go square dancing. Sara had a magical way with children – she adored kids, and they adored her. She loved to feed and take care of people. She was full of energy and life, always busy and always loving. She was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman, worth more than rubies: “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband John, her parents, her three sisters, her five brothers, and her son-in-law Terry Jackson Bunn. She is survived by her loving children Gilbert Martin Allen (Elaine), Michael Phillip Allen (Ellen), and Kay Allen Bunn, as well as ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her family is eternally grateful to her special friends, Betty Tubbs and Barbara Spence. She was so loved by us all, and we will miss our precious MeMe. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal…

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 16th, from 10:00 until 11:00, followed by the memorial service at 11:00, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Dr. Gil McKee will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John Allen, Mark Allen, Terry Jackson Bunn, Jr., Kane Bunn, Wesley Alley, Russell Alley, Lee Laska, and Jack Gerrity.
