Maurice D. Rainey, age 93, of Cottondale, AL went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 7, 2024. He was born January 12, 1931, and was the fourth child born to William Brandon Rainey and Lena Savannah Head Rainey. His baby sister, Lane, was the fifth child.
He is survived by his wonderful wife of 55 years, Eva Boswell Rainey, and their many nieces and nephews who love them both deeply. He will truly be missed by all.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Genesis Church (previously Fairview Wesleyan Church), 7667 Hargrove Road East, Cottondale, AL 35453. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. and the Committal Service will be directly following at Big Creek Cemetery, 14413-14499 US Highway 82 West, Coker, AL 35452.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Stanley Rainey (Inez), Nathan Rainey (Lucille), and sisters, Mavis Geraldine Rainey and Flora Lane Rainey Busby (Vernon).
Maurice joined the United States Army in 1952 and was stationed in Korea during the Korean conflict. Later he joined the Navy and was a Seabee in the Construction Battalion, learning to be a Diesel Mechanic, then in the Reserves, and served his country for 34 years. He also worked for the Tuscaloosa County Shop, drove 18-wheelers, and was a Security Guard at Jim Walter Mine #5.
He loved life and traveled extensively in the military, for jobs, and also for his enjoyment. The family has many stories of his amazing life, motorcycle trips all over the USA, or flying his own airplane. Friends in aviation knew his land as Rainey Field and it was eventually listed on the map.
He is the last member of the Rainey Family to attend the original Fairview Wesleyan Church which was organized in 1932 where he and Eva both still attended. In 1997 they joined the Christian Motorcyclists Association and thoroughly enjoyed this ministry. He was able to attend many nationwide rallies and always rode his motorcycle to them until recent years.
Pallbearers will be nephews, neighbors, and CMA Members of T-Town Christian Cruisers Chapter #737. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Genesis Church and Hargrove Road East neighbors and friends.
