Born in Tuscaloosa April 8, 1932, to Arthur and Ethel (Davis) Spencer, Mary Ann lived her entire life in Tuscaloosa County, the majority of it in Holt. A 1950 graduate of Holt High School, she married the love of her life, Ruford Perrigin, January 21, 1955, and they had two children, Doug and Suzanne. Mary Ann worked for over 30 years for South Central Bell, currently AT&T. She then worked for 10 years for the Tuscaloosa County School System as a library aide at both Hillcrest High School and Riverside Junior High School. Deeply faithful to her Lord, she was a longtime member of Holt Baptist Church, and, more recently, Circlewood Baptist Church.
Beautiful inside and out, with the most amazing smile, Mary Ann faced a diagnosis of dementia in her later years as she did all things in life—with grace, truth, humor, courage, and love.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her parents, and her brothers James and Mike.
She is survived by her son Doug Perrigin (Jan) of Westfield, Indiana; her daughter Suzanne Dowling (Rick) of Tuscaloosa; her grandsons Will Perrigin (Rachael) of Greenfield, Indiana, Jamey Perrigin of Westfield, and Sam Dowling of Tuscaloosa; her great-grandchildren Harley, Liam, and Maverick Perrigin, all of Westfield, and Breauna and Anna Morales, and Emily Tennant, all of Greenfield; her brother Chris Spencer of Tuscaloosa; her sister-in-law Ruby Perrigin of Northport, Alabama; nephews Bryant Spencer (Jennifer) of Milledgeville, Georgia, Johnny Hayes (Sabrina) of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and Steve Perrigin of Prattville, Alabama and Jim Holliman of Tuscaloosa; special cousin Gary (Deb) Spencer of Tuscaloosa; nieces Brenda Miel (Bruce) of Tuscaloosa and Sandra Smitherman (O’Neal) of Birmingham, and numerous cousins and great-nieces and -nephews.
Her service will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa. Burial will follow in their cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Colvin, Sam Dowling, Bruce Miel, Jamey Perrigin, Steve Perrigin, and Chris Spencer.
