It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James O. (Jimmy) Glover of Northport, Alabama on December 20, 2024, at the age of 84. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Jimmy lived a life of faith, love and service to others.
Born in July 25, 1940, in Fosters, Alabama the son of Josh and Lorene Glover. He was a 1958 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and proudly served in the Army Reserve. His career included 19 years at Gulf States Paper Mill, followed by positions at West Alabama Planning and Development, and later retiring from the Tuscaloosa City School Board.
A man of faith, Jimmy served as a deacon at both Rosedale Baptist Church and Northport Baptist church, where he was guiding light to his congregation and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents Josh and Lorene Glover, and sister Carol Glover Vines.
Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Faye; daughter Wendy Callahan (Tommy) of Coker; grandsons, Christian Callahan (Amy) of Northport and Chase Callahan of Nashville, Tennesee; brothers-in-law, Larry Brasher (Ann) of Huntsville and Melvin Vines of Tuscaloosa; and several nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was a devoted collector of Gene Autry and western memorabilia. He and Faye enjoyed attending western film conventions each summer, where they forged lifelong friendships with other collectors. His other hobbies included all areas of electronics and music and video transfers - all of which he had a wealth of knowledge. Although sometimes stressful, those who knew and loved him will say that he also enjoyed watching Alabama football with friends and family. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved watching his two grandsons play sports over the years.
Pallbearers include Christian Callahan, Chase Callahan, Revis Guy, Melvin Vines, Lane Vines and Billy Vines. Honorary pallbearers include the Tuscaloosa County High School class of 1958, the Carl Wilson Sunday School Class, Carl and Dina Blomstran, John and Emalyn Hinton, Dan and Pegi Reynolds, Audrey Boozer, Linda Fletcher, Sandy and Connie Hartley, David and Nita Weir, Burt and Barbara Wilis, caregivers Lisa Tingle, Stacy Jones, Kim Watson, Steven Fondren, Jasmine Gibson, and Jeanie Harcrow, Nurses and staff of Southern Care Hospice and the Northport McDonald's coffee group.
A Celebration of Jimmy's life will be held on Monday, December 23rd at Memory Chapel Funeral Home at 2 PM, a visitation to precede at 1 PM.
