James Major Battles

GREEN POND James “Major” Battles, age 57, of Green Pond, died Sept. 4, 2011, at home. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Ben Corley officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Battles, and his sister, Barbara Charlton.

Survivors include his sons, James F. Battles of Woodstock and Johnathan Battles of West Blocton; his sisters, Johnnie F. Martin of Vance, Judy Pierson (Ed) of Vance, and Melinda Farley (David) of Bessemer; his brother, Joel Gafnea of Woodstock; his mother, Hazel Gafnea of Woodstock; and his grandchildren, Levi Battles, Krista Battles, Kylie Battles, and Khloe Battles.

He was a loving son, father, brother, and friend.

Pallbearers will be Mike Johnson, Ricky Ryan, Danny Ryan, Ricky Hayes, Steve Eaton, and Charlie Finch.
