Born September 8, 1955 in Tuscaloosa, he was the son of the late Richard F. ""Dickie"" and Mary Jo Shuttlesworth Miller.
Mr. Miller dedicated a majority of his life in the service of others. His first love, besides his family, was firefighting. He served the Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service for 22 years before retiring as a lieutenant. In his spare time and after his retirement, he worked for Patco Electrical Contractors for over 30 years.
Mr. Miller never met a stranger. He will be remembered as selfless and always tried to make others smile even when times were tough. He had a quiet strength and always sacrificed his needs for the good of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard F. ""Rusty"" Miller II of Lexingston, Ky.
Hugh is survived by his wife; sons, Hugh Anthony ""Ty"" Miller, II and Christopher Mark Miller of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren and loves of his life, Charlotte Presley and Cru Thomas Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews he all nicknamed ""Fred"" as well as numerous other relatives he cared deeply for.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Don Montgomery, Kirk Patterson, Robert Gibson, Mike O'Bryant, John Johnson, Newell Allen and John Hamner.
Honorary pallbearers are the Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service, Patco Electrical Contractors, doctors and nurses of the MICU at DCH Regional Medical Center and Dr. Leonard Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Forest Lake Baptist Church.
